Bangladesh is exploring options to enhance rail connectivity between Dhaka and Chattogram by launching a feasibility study for a new railway line. If implemented, the new line is expected to reduce the travel time by approximately one hour and 20 minutes, cutting the distance by around 80 kilometers.

State Minister for Railways Habibur Rashid shared these plans during a press briefing at Chattogram Railway Station. The existing train journey between Dhaka and Chattogram currently takes about two and a half to three hours.

Rashid emphasized the government's commitment to improving passenger services on the Dhaka-Chattogram-Cox's Bazar route. He mentioned the potential introduction of additional train services to meet the growing demand from tourists and passengers, which could significantly alleviate the current pressure on tickets and enhance overall travel comfort.

The proposed new line would create a chord from Narayanganj to Cumilla, offering a more direct route. During his visit to the Chattogram Railway Station, Rashid reviewed various aspects of the station, including passenger services, infrastructure, cleanliness, and security measures.

This initiative is part of the broader government efforts to boost railway capacity and improve the travel experience for millions of passengers. Reducing travel time could have significant economic benefits, encouraging more people to choose trains over other modes of transport.
