Bangladesh and Japan have agreed to deepen cooperation in transport infrastructure development, including the expansion of mass transit services. The agreement was reached during a meeting between Special Adviser to the Prime Minister of Japan UNO Yoshimasa and Bangladesh's Road Transport and Bridges, Shipping and Railways Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam. The two sides discussed various issues of mutual interest, with a focus on modernizing Bangladesh's transport system and developing a sustainable mass transit network.

Minister Rabiul expressed gratitude for Japan's longstanding support for Bangladesh's infrastructure development. He highlighted the importance of Japan's continued cooperation as a development partner, emphasizing the value of Japan's experience, technological expertise, and technical assistance in developing a modern, safe, and environmentally friendly mass transit system.

The minister noted that the government is implementing long-term plans to develop Bangladesh's transport infrastructure and modernize its public transport system. He stressed that the experience and cooperation of development partners like Japan are crucial in establishing an integrated, safe, and people-friendly transport system.

UNO Yoshimasa emphasized the need to develop modern and sustainable mass transit infrastructure in line with Bangladesh's rapid urbanization and economic growth. He reaffirmed Japan's commitment to continue its cooperation in Bangladesh's ongoing development journey, suggesting that both countries could work more closely in the future on infrastructure development, metro rail, railway connectivity, and road transport.

The meeting was attended by Road Transport and Highways Division Secretary Dr Mohammad Ziaul Haque and Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) Managing Director Md Shawgatul Alam. This agreement is expected to further strengthen the longstanding friendly relations between Bangladesh and Japan, enhancing cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
