The Bangladesh government has handed over 400 metric tonnes of rice to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to provide food assistance to Rohingyas living in Cox's Bazar. The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief formally handed over 139 metric tonnes of rice in the first phase today at WFP's Logistics Hub in Ukhiya.

The handover ceremony was attended by Secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief Md. Saidur Rahman Khan and WFP Bangladesh Country Director Coco Ushiyama. Additional Secretary of the Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC) Mohammad Mizanur Rahman also participated in the event.

## Rohingya Population and Assistance

Currently, around 1.2 million Rohingyas are living in camps in Cox's Bazar and Bhasan Char. Approximately 150,000 Rohingyas have taken shelter in Bangladesh since the beginning of 2024. The initial phase of rice assistance will support around 30,000 people for one month.
