State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development & Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam today said the government is working to transform Bangladesh into a clean and liveable country. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is leading this initiative with relentless efforts.

## Highway Cleanup Initiative

Alam mentioned that the two sides of the Dhaka-Aricha Highway from Aminbazar to Hemayetpur, which had long been littered with waste, are now undergoing a major cleanup. This decision followed the Prime Minister's directive to remove waste, conduct an environmental cleanup, and plant Neem saplings along a 1.2-kilometre stretch of the highway.

## Inspection and Progress

The state minister inspected the ongoing waste removal, cleanliness, and tree plantation programme at Aminbazar in Savar. He noted that this section of the highway is expected to be free from foul odour for the first time in nearly 20 years.

## Call for Public Cooperation

Mir Shahe Alam urged the public to refrain from indiscriminately dumping waste to help maintain a clean and healthy environment. He also assured that repair works on roads damaged by recent rains would begin as soon as the floodwaters recede.

## Support from Local Administration

Dhaka Deputy Commissioner Farida Khanom emphasized that the district administration is giving top priority to implementing the Prime Minister's initiative to build a clean and green Dhaka. Several other officials were also present during the inspection, showing the collaborative effort behind this project.
