# Bangladesh Floods and Landslides: 51 Lives Lost, Over 1 Million Affected

The disaster management and relief ministry has reported 51 deaths caused by floods, heavy rainfall, and related landslides since last week. Rivers in two of the country’s four major river basins have surpassed their danger levels. As many as 1,022,963 people have been affected, and 267,918 families have been marooned in flood-hit areas.

## Affected Areas and Damages

The flood-affected districts include Khagrachhari, Rangamati, Bandarban, Cox's Bazar, Chattogram in Chattogram division, and Moulvibazar and Habiganj in Sylhet division. Approximately 80,000 homesteads, 344 educational institutions, 3,840 kilometers of roads, and 339 bridges and culverts have been damaged.

## Humanitarian Assistance and Government Response

The ministry has allocated Tk 4.60 crore in cash and 8,950 tonnes of rice for humanitarian assistance across all 64 districts since July 7. The government has called out army troops and paramilitary forces for relief and rescue operations, and medical teams have been mobilized to treat the sick and wounded.

## International Aid and Forecasts

The UN World Food Programme has provided emergency cash support to more than 15,600 vulnerable households in Bandarban, benefiting around 75,000 people. The Meteorological Department has forecast widespread rainfall across most parts of the country over the next five days, advising residents in flood and landslide-prone areas to remain alert.

## Government and Prime Minister's Directives

State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief M Iqbal Hossain has assured continuous relief support and rehabilitation programs once the situation returns to normalcy. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has tasked State Minister for energy Aninda Islam Amit to oversee flood management in Chattogram division.
