The Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) has issued a warning that several districts in northern, north-eastern, and south-eastern Bangladesh could experience short-term flooding over the next 24 to 48 hours. This is due to rising river levels caused by heavy rainfall. The FFWC has specifically warned that rivers in Sylhet division and parts of northern Bangladesh may exceed danger levels, posing a risk of temporary inundation to low-lying areas along the riverbanks.

## Heavy Rainfall Forecast

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecast for Sylhet and neighbouring Indian states of Assam and Meghalaya. This rainfall is expected to push up water levels in several rivers including the Surma, Kushiyara, Sarigowain, Jadukata, Someshwari, and Bhugai-Kangsha. In the south-east, the Muhuri, Feni, Selonia, and Halda rivers could overflow, affecting parts of Feni, Chattogram, and Khagrachhari. Low-lying areas of Lakshmipur and Noakhali may also face temporary flooding.

## Rivers at Risk

The FFWC has warned that the Teesta, Dharla, and Dudhkumar rivers could cross danger levels in districts such as Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat, Rangpur, Kurigram, and Gaibandha. This increases the risk of flooding in nearby lowlands. The flood situation is expected to worsen in parts of Sylhet and Sunamganj over the next 24 to 72 hours as the Surma and Kushiyara rivers continue to rise.

## Improving Conditions Elsewhere

On a positive note, the FFWC has indicated that conditions are expected to improve in parts of Bandarban, Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Moulvibazar, and Habiganj. Water levels in the Sangu, Matamuhuri, Manu, Dhalai, and Khowai rivers are forecast to recede in these areas.
