# Agriculture Secretary Cautions Against Artificial Creation of Fertilizer Crisis

In a stern warning against those attempting to create an artificial fertilizer crisis, Agriculture Secretary Md Selim Khan emphasized that there is no real shortage of fertilizer in the country. Speaking as the chief guest at a view-exchange meeting titled "Exchange of Views with Stakeholders on Field-Level Fertilizer Management" held at the Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner's conference room, he made it clear that adequate stock is available and any attempts to manipulate the system would be met with severe consequences.

Khan highlighted the government's commitment to agricultural development and farmer welfare, aligning with the Prime Minister's election manifesto. He stressed that any negligence or irregularity in the fertilizer distribution system would result in personal accountability for the officers involved, including legal proceedings and departmental actions. "Under no circumstances should information come that any agriculture officer is involved in creating an artificial crisis," he asserted.

Addressing concerns about fertilizer adequacy, the Secretary invited journalists to visit government warehouses and business centers to verify the stock. He noted that additional allocations could be made through the Deputy Commissioner and the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) if there is extra demand in any area. The government is also providing substantial subsidies to support farmers, with Taka 89 per kilogram of DAP fertilizer and Taka 35 per kilogram of urea fertilizer.

The Secretary urged dealers to cooperate with the government to ensure that common farmers are not harmed. He mentioned a proposal to increase dealer commissions from Taka 2 to Taka 4, which is currently under review. Khan concluded by emphasizing the importance of a sound fertilizer management system, which he believes will contribute to the nation's food and nutrition security.

The meeting, presided over by Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner Dr. ANM Bazlur Rashid, was attended by various high-ranking officials, including the Director General of the DAE Md. Abdur Rahim, law enforcement representatives, Deputy Commissioners, and Superintendents of Police from Rajshahi Division. The event also saw participation from agriculture officers, representatives of BCIC and BADC, fertilizer dealers, and journalists from both print and electronic media.
